Film Fridays | September | Project Love | Kaede

Lil x's + o's of the ones you love...miss Kaede.KarynJohnsonPhotography_kaede_0014Who better to share my film project with than my Film Friday group :) What is project love? Project love was born out of what i love to do...capturing those tiny lil moments (on film) that we sometimes take for granted and putting them on paper...lil bits and pieces of the ones you love, for the ones you love.

Each project love session includes an 8x10 collage like the one above.  I can't tell you how much these lil sessions make my heart happy....me slowing down and enjoying all the love in front of me. Contax 645, Fuji 400h, Image Source

...now onto more film goodness with Jessica Nelson of The Gaggle Photography! See ya'll next month :). Happy Friday!!

Film Fridays | Ethan | Lincoln High | Stockton, CA High School Senior Photographer

Well...his senior year is here and can't you tell how excited he was to let mom get a few snaps?! His name is Ethan and yep, he has his dad's sarcastic sense of humor...which equates to a lot more gray hairs for me :). Ha!...Love him to death though and wouldn't trade him for anything. I tried out a little white seamless for this roll of film and ordered a new color for my next roll. I loved the comfort of sitting on my dining room floor in my pj's shooting these...I hightly recommend it...you'll love it :). I did shoot some b&w with my rollei, but my boys didn't let me get through the whole roll :(, maybe next time. Let's go see what Heidi Adams shot this month and then follow our entire film circle! Contax 645, Fuji 400h, Richard Photo Lab

Film Fridays | July Edition | Rolleiflex

I forgot all about these. These were shot before I sent my rollei in to be cla'd. Got my lil camera back and now can't wait to go play with it. Next stop on our film circle journey... Jessica Nelson of The Gaggle Photography! Hopefully, I'll have some new rollei shots to share for next month's edition. Rolleiflex 2.8f, Fuji 400h & Kodak Tri-X, Richard Photo Lab

Film Fridays | May Edition | The Crame Family

Where has this month gone? The boys and I have been so busy these past few weeks that just thinking about it makes me dizzy! But here we are, last Friday of the month...you get to see what our talented group of ladies have been up to lately. My film share this month is a few frames of my sister and her beautiful family. She has girls...I have boys. Ummm....I think I got the easier deal! Ha! Love you my nieces xoxo! Contax 645, Fuji 400h, RPL.

Don't forget to follow our circle and visit Katiusca Guzman next! Happy Friday :).

Film Fridays | April Edition | Marina

So I bought a Rollei, loaded it with some Kodak Tri-X bw film and shot a roll of my good friend, Marina..isn't she beautiful!!! I had no idea if it was working or not, but was thrilled to find at least one in focus, ha!...well there were a few more, but I'm sharing an in focus one and an equally gorgeous misfocused one :). We had fun with some Kodak Portra 400 and Fuji 400h too...shot on my Contax 645. Devoloped and scanned by Photovision. Enjoy your weekend everyone!! Don't forget to follow our circle and visit the talented Jessica Nelson of  The Gaggle Photography next!

Film Fridays | March Edition | Toree

I actually shot a full session with beautiful Miss Toree (for her upcoming 15th bday, yay!), but I snuck in one roll at the end of the shoot to send over to Photovision to have it developed and scanned for this month's Film Friday post. Mailed out on Saturday and had them in my inbox on Wednesday!!!! A nice lil surprise peak for me & Toree!! I highly recommend Photovision...they were super nice, courteous and need I say speedy ! Oh and Yes, I absolutely love what they sent back!!  Contax 645, Portra 400. Don't forget to follow our circle and visit my friend Jayme Franklin of  Jayme Franklin Photography next!

Film Fridays | February | Ashley

Sent my film to Indie Film Lab this month and had these scanned on the Frontier. Loved what I got back :). Contax 645, Fuji 400HNext up:  Central Maryland Photographer, Jessica Nelson of The Gaggle Photography.

Film Fridays | January | Napa

Shoot a roll of film and share on the last friday of the month...its called...film fridays! You can follow our entire group by clicking on the blog links in each post. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone's film adventures. Grab an old film camera and start shooting :). Don't forget to visit Orange County Photographer, Eileen Gomez' blog next :). So for all my film girls out there, I rented the 50 1.2 and had these developed & scanned by RPL, large scans on the Noritsu. They were a lot less grainy then my 35mm in the past, so I'm wondering if it's the lens or the large scans? Anyhoo...trying to see what lens I want to purchase next to use with my new 1V body, which I love btw :). What lens is your fave on your 35mm?

Film Fridays | December | Film is Not Dead | Haleiwa | Day 1

Shoot a roll of film and share on the last friday of the month...its called...film fridays! You can follow our entire group by clicking on the blog links in each post. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone's film adventures. Grab an old film camera and start shooting :). Don't forget to visit Hampshire Wedding  Photographer, Jenny Owen's blog next :). I have a lot to share with you my friends and I will share more of my adventure with you soon, but for now here are a few images from Day 1 of my Film is Not Dead workshop, hosted by Jonathan Canlas on the North Shore of Oahu...yes, as I sit here in my office wrapped in a blanket, I want to go back! And if you don't know what FIND is all about, go check out what Jonathan Canlas has to say about it here. Yes, his passion is infectious :).

Thank you to Jonathan and our real couples, Austin & Katie, Ashley & Marshall and Raelayn & Bryson!! You guys are all awesome, mahalo. And this is how Day 1 shooting took place (after a full day of lecture material)...we got split up into three groups and each person in the group had approx 5-8 minutes to direct & pose them. Yes, I was nervously shaking and not sure how I actually got some shots off :)!! Such a terrifying, but awesome exercise and experience! Remember, this is just Day 1 folks...and just the beginning to my film filled 2013.

A very special thank you to my husband for making this trip possible. There were times when I thought I wouldn't be able to make it, but I think he knew far better than me how much I needed this. From my awesome FIND family to Jon's inspiration and passion, I am one lucky girl to have been able to experience it all. These past couple of years have been filled with a lot of ups and downs, and I love you Mr. Johnson for seeing me through it. xoxo

Film Fridays | November Edition + Project 52 | Silver

Okay, I know this is like cheating big time...but gonna be away from my computer for a while and wanted to make sure I got both my Film Friday and Project 52 posts up :)! 1. Shoot a roll of film and share on the last friday of the month...its called...film fridays! You can follow the entire group of us filmies by clicking on the blog links in each post. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone's film adventures. Grab an old film camera and start shooting :).

As film shooters do you ever get crazy when trying to decide if you want to shoot color or bw film? Well, that's me ALL DAY LONG...I always want to shoot both and I'm not one of those who can see whether a shot would look awesome in black and white at that particular moment or not...not to mention trying to juggle 2 cameras at once. So I've been playing around with b&w conversions on some of my color scans lately and really like vsco film's hp5- preset. What do you girls do to convert some of your color images to b&w? All images fuji 400h color scans converted with vsco film's hp5- preset, Contax 645. Don't forget to visit Hampshire Wedding  Photographer, Jenny Owen's blog next :).

2. Week 48 Theme: Silver...Does b&w count?...sure it does...I think I'm doubly cheating now!! So for my Sunday Project 52 group, please follow Alison Crane's link next. Thank you girls for indulging in my madness! Have a wonderful week! Alison Crane's blog: Bay Area Photographer, Alison Crane.

Film Fridays | September Edition | My Lil One

Shoot a roll of film and share the entire roll on the last friday of the month...its called...film fridays! You can follow the entire group of us filmies by clicking on the blog links in each post. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone's film adventures. Grab an old film camera and start shooting :). I actually shot a whole roll of 35mm film at the Steelers' game that my husband made me me go to (ahem, I mean brought me to) this past weekend. However, I've been missing the colors and creaminess of my Contax. I actually just got these scans back after holding on to this roll for like forever! And lo and behold, that Fuji 400h + Contax color that I adore...a shot that doesn't really mean anything to anyone else, but means the world to this mama. This was his first day of football practice this year and he graciously gave me a 5 second pose. And to show you that sometimes straight scans may need a little bit of adjust to your taste processing, I've included a before shot (straight from lab scan) and an after shot (a little bump in midtones and a color balance layer in cs5). I think I needed this as a reminder to not give up on film...keep on shooting, keep on sending those rolls in...keep on keeping on...I heart film and I'm so grateful to this group for keeping me on track! Now keep on keeping on by following our entire circle and visiting Hampshire children and family portrait photographer, Jenny Owen's blog next :). Have a good weekend everyone.

I'm looking forward to learning from everyone's film adventures. Grab an old film camera and start shooting :). This month I was experimenting with shooting in full sun and how much I intentionally overexposed my shots. My discoveries for this month...1.) I think I like really overexposed exposures, these were only overexposed by one stop and I think I would've been happy with a few stops more, 2.) I don't really care for shooting in full sun...I gravitated more towards my open shade shots,  and 3.) I'm kinda liking converting my color scans to bw these days...

Please don't forget to follow our blog circle by checking out what Hampshire children and family portrait photographer, Jenny Owen's might have learned film wise this month!

I'm looking forward to learning from everyone's film adventures. Grab an old film camera and start shooting :). I was actually waiting on a few scans that I had in mind for this month's post, but that didn't work out as planned...so sitting at home with my sick boy, I thought...when life gives you lemons...why the heck not and try and make some darn good lemonade!!!! Geesh!!! So I took my Canon EOS 3 and some Fuji Superia 400 around my house and shot a whole roll of whatever the heck I felt like shooting. It was kinda like therapy...so here's a whole roll (minus one that was completely blank...not sure what happened there), the good, bad and ugly (no, not you Kyle...). A little tour of my house on film...enjoy! Developed and scanned by Walgreens...cropped a few and removed dust from scans. This group was created only a few weeks ago, so this month we are sharing what we can. In honor of Ripon, CA's Almond Blossom Festival, I am sharing a few frames from this past weekend. The beautiful blooms are around only for a very short period of time (I think a week or two at the most) and when I shot these the blooms were not yet at their peak.
